Northern Christian leaders have welcomed the move by Dr. Sheik Ahmad Gumi to lead a negotiation team with herdsmen for the stability of peace in the region.
The General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, Kaduna, Pastor Yohanna Buru, noted with joy Dr Ahmed Mahmud Gumi’s effort of venturing into Southern Kaduna forest reserves to talk to Fulani herdsmen on the importance of peace and unity in the country.
According to the Pastor, only God would reward the Islamic scholar for dedicating his time towards visiting the Fulanis in the bush, and to draw their attention to the need to embraced Arabic and western education while rearing their cattle.
Pastor Buru commended the effort of the Muslim scholar for taking peace campaign to the Fulani cattle breeders in order to sensitize them on the dangers of kidnapping, armed banditry and other unlawful activities that go contrary to the law of the land.
The Pastor noted, “We really appreciate him for taking his time visiting those Fulanis while calling on them to embraced peace. He is unique and quite different among all the scholars in his own method and approach to end killing, cattle rustling, kidnapping, armed banditry and gunmen attack.
“We must applaud him for taking this bold step towards dialogue and educating the Fulani youths on the dangers of drug abuse, and involving themselves in unlawful acts in the state.”
He explained that the importance of peace cannot be overemphasized hence the need for them to embraced peace and unity and dialogue with government to solved their problems in order to move the country forward.
Pastor Buru called on all Islamic scholars to emulate the effort of Sheikh Gumi and to equally dedicate their time while creating special time to visit the Fulanis who are residing in the forest to educate them and sensitize them on peace building.
He then called on JNI, Council of Imams and Ulamas, Supreme Council of Dhariah and Islamic Matters in the country to as a matter of urgency join Sheikh Gumi in taking peace campaign to all the people that are residing in the forest including farmers, fishermen and other cattle breeders.
Also, another Christian cleric, Reverend Paul Elisha Ham appealed to wealthy individuals, CSO/NGO and other corporate organizations to always support the Muslim cleric with some assistance in order to enable him spread the gospel of peace throughout the 19 northern states.
He urged Kaduna state government to support the Muslim cleric with enough security men whenever he is going to the bush for the peace mission.
