Abia State government, on Saturday, said it has set up a mobile court in the State to check the unabated harmful environmental attitudes of the people, particularly in Aba.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Tony Nwamuo, made the disclosure while monitoring environmental activities in the commercial city.

Nwamuo condemned the actions of the auto mechanics at Clifford, School and Weeks roads who have converted the newly reconstructed roads into workshops.

According to him, the development has thinned out vehicular movements and caused hardship to other road users.

He further gave the operators 72 hours to vacate the streets and frowned at the level of degradation their activities have caused on the roads, stressing that the expired engine oil constantly poured on the asphalted roads and defecation into the gutters have not only defaced the streets but damaged them to the extent of throwing the roads back to their hitherto deplorable conditions.

At the newly constructed Osusu, Ebenma and Egege roads, the commissioner called on residents to join hands with the administration of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu to build the State and stop disposing their waste into the drainage systems.

Meanwhile, earthwork activities are in progress at Ngwa Road, Obohia and Ohanku roads as Mr Tony Nwamuo expressed satisfaction with the situation and hoped that with the increased operations of the construction companies that have deployed more equipment, the projects will witness accelerated progress and appreciable results before the next visit of the Governor.
