The Isaac Ogbobula-led faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has hailed the Court of Appeal judgment that sacked Igo Aguma as chairman of the caretaker committee. It said the decision has brought sanity to the party.

The party also expressed lack of confidence in the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to conduct credible local government elections.

Ogbobula, who spoke in Port Harcourt, said the judgment would enable the party work together for a common purpose.

He said: “We hail Justices of the Court of Appeal for the erudite judgment delivered on Tuesday, particularly for restoring sanity and sending a clear message to lower courts to desist from unnecessarily meddling in the internal affairs of political parties.”

Ogbobula appealed to all true members of the party to support the rebuilding of APC as it could no longer afford to keep destroying itself. According to him, the APC was prepared to play the opposition.

He added: “We call on all genuine members of the APC in Rivers State to support us in moving the party forward. We cannot afford to be distracted anymore by comedians and mercantile politicians conniving with the government its mis-governance.

“We must start to interrogate the policies, programmes and activities of state, and invariably the application of state resources. The people must consciously resist a situation where one man runs the show…”

A party chieftain, Prof. Henry Ugboma, has warned of consequences if members do not partake in the membership revalidation exercise.

Ugboma appealed to party faithful to prepare themselves to fully participate in the revalidation to avoid losing their membership.

The don spoke at the inauguration of Ugboma Grassroots Initiatives (UGI) in Ndoni District, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area. According to him, the revalidation would help determine the number of real APC members across the country.

Ugboma, who is also the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), urged party leaders to take the registration of new members seriously to strengthen the party ahead of the 2023 elections.

He said: “Those who will want to take the registration exercise and revalidation of membership cards for granted will have themselves to blame because they will not be regarded as party members, and will not participate in any of its activities and programmes.”
