Lionel Messi equalled Pele’s record of 643 goals for a single club but struggling Barcelona still slipped to a 2-2 La Liga draw with Valencia at the Nou Camp.

It was honours even between Barcelona and Valencia after their 2-2 draw at Camp Nou on Saturday.

Goals from Lionel Messi and Ronald Araújo netted for the hosts, with Mouctar Diakhaby and Maxi Gomez scoring for Los Che.

Despite Barcelona dominating possession early on, Valencia took the lead through Mouctar Diakhaby who took advantage of some criminal defending to head home.

But the hosts equalised before half-time through Lionel Messi, who initially missed a penalty before bundling in seconds later with Jordi Alba alive to the rebound.

A similar pattern followed in the second half and Barça went ahead through Ronald Araújo, whose acrobatic volley flew past Jaume Doménech from close range.

Valencia still posed a threat, however, and found another goal from Maxi Gomez who nipped ahead of Óscar Mingueza to finish after good work from José Gayà.

Barça pushed for an equaliser but couldn’t break through, with Los Che earning a well-earned point on the road.
