Pastor Tunde Bakare states position on social media bill [VIDEO]
Founder of the Citadel Global Church, Tunde Bakare, has denied endorsing the bill to regulate social media in Nigeria.
Bakare said this on Tuesday while reacting to speculation that he is in full support of the bill, which will regulate and control social mediaposts.
Making clarifications, Bakare in an interview with Arise Tv, said he is not asking for regulation of social media but demanding that the law should make social media to be used productively and not to incite chaos in Nigeria.
Bakare said: “Well everything in life including your freedom and mine within our boundary is dangerous.
“I’m not asking for regulation but we must find a way within our law to use the social media productively and not to fill it with fake news that can incite people or bring chaos into society but to advance the development of our nation and our people.”
Meanwhile, Bakare had declared his readiness to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
Nowhere in my @AriseTV interview did I “demand regulation of social media in Nigeria” as is currently making the rounds. We may agree to disagree, but we must always be fair and factual in our reporting. Clickbait and #FakeNews can snowball into grave unintended consequences. pic.twitter.com/EA4Cxja8S2
