Round up of Nigerian players in Europa League match day 2
The Europa League entered week 2 as action-packed games were played across Europe.
A couple of interesting results were recorded Thursday night from various teams especially with the three maximum points at stake at the various venue.
Once again, Nigerian players were in action featuring for their respective clubs with the aim to make ends meet on the pitch.
Following the outings involving Nigerian players, DAILY POST evaluates how these exploits fared across Europe on Thursday.
Europa-League-Group B
Arsenal teenage sensation, Bukayo Saka was on the bench for the entire duration of the game at the Emirates.
Arsenal defeated Dundalk 3-0 at home. Elsewhere, striker Ohi Anthony Omoijuanfo scored his side winning goal in the 65th minute as Molde defeated Rapid Wien 1-0.
Other Nigerian striker, Leke James made a cameo appearance. He replaced Magnus Wolff Eikrem in the 84th minute of the encounter.
Europa-League-Group C
Slavia Prague’s Peter Olayinka scored his side solitary goal as they defeated Bayer Leverkusen at home 1-0. He got the goal in the 80th minute after coming off the substitute bench.
He replaced Oscar Dorley in the 61st minute of the match. He was booked in the 68th minute of the game.
Europa-League-Group D
Steven Gerrard’s Rangers defeated Lech Poznan 1-0 in Scotland. Rangers Nigerian contingent Joe Aribo came for Ianis Hagi in the 69th minute while Leon Balogun played the entire 90 minutes of the game.
Ranger’s Calvin Bassey Ughelumba (left-back) was on Rangers bench for the entire match.
Europa-League-Group E
Granada midfielder Ramon Azeez was not in action as his side drew 0-0 with PAOK Thessaloniki FC.
Elsewhere, PSV Eindhoven 18 years old attacking midfielder Chukwunonso Tristan Madueke was in action for 83minutes and he made the assist for Donyell Malen’s equalizer in the 40th minute. He was replaced by Adrian Fein.
Europa League-Group F
Napoli’s Victor Osimhen defeated Real Sociedad 0-1 on Match Day 2 of the Europa League. Osimhen lasted for only the 61st minutes and was replaced by Andrea Petagna.
He was surprisingly given the marching order in the 90 minutes.
Europa League-Group G
Leicester City defeated AEK Athens 1-2 away from home. Wilfred Ndidi as expected was out injured but Kelechi Iheanacho came on from the bench to replace star striker Jamie Vardy in the 70th minutes.
Europa League-Group I
Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze was in action for 86th minutes as his side claimed a 1-3 away win at Qarabag SK.
Chukwueze was replaced in the 86th minutes by Alejandro Baena.
Sivasspor’s star man Olarenwaju Kayode was on the score sheet for his Turkish side just like he did on Match Day One Fixture.
But they lost 1-2 to Israeli giants Maccabi Tel Aviv. Kayode scored in the 55th minute.
Europa League-Group J
Nigerian goalkeeper Tobias Lawal was on the bench for LASK Linz as they defeated visiting Ludogerets Razgrad 4-3.
Europa League-Group K
CSKA Moscow’s Chidera Ejuke was in action for 75th minutes as they were held to a goalless draw at home with Croatia’s Dinamo Zagreb. Ejuke was replaced by Arnor Sigurdsson.
Europa League-Group L
Hoffenheim’s Kevin Akpoguma lasted the entire duration of the match for his German Bundesliga side.
Hoffenheim claimed a 1-4 convincing away win at Belgium side Gent.
