Rennes goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy skipped the club’s training on Friday and was left out of the team squad to face Nimes on Sunday with speculation arising that he is set to move to Chelsea.

Chelsea is working to secure a deal believed to be worth around £25 million for Mendy.

Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard is keen to sign a new shot-stopper after becoming concerned by the performances of the club’s first-choice keeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Mendy has reportedly agreed to terms on a five-year deal with Chelsea, but both the Premier League giants and the French Ligue 1 side have been at loggerheads over a fee for the 28-year-old.

However, Mendy was seen in footage by a French TV station, TVR, leaving training on Friday alongside his agent, Metro UK reports.

The Senegalese goalkeeper took no part in training and his deputy, Romain Salin, will instead be between the sticks when Rennes face Nimes on Sunday in their away Ligue 1 opener tie.

It is understood that Rennes are demanding £25m for Mendy.

Mendy started his career at Cherbourg and Stade de Reims before he moved to Rennes in 2018
