Heavy downpour has washed away a bridge in Badungu village, Birnin Kudu local government area of Jigawa State, killing a 21-year-old man identified as Sani Dahiru.

Police spokesman SP Abdu Jinjiri confirmed the incident to DAILY POST in Dutse, capital of the state.

He said the incident occurred on Monday night as a result of heavy downpour which resulted to the collapse of the bridge linking Badungu village and Cagun village in Birnin kudu local government area.

Jinjiri stated that one Sani Dalha of Gwangwara village drowned and died while trying to cross the bridge.

He noted that the deceased was handed over to his relatives and was buried according to the Islamic rites.

State Commissioner of works and transport, Engineer Aminu Usman and members and his entourage also paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased.

He noted that Jigawa State Government will work for the reconstruction of the bridge due to its economic impacts to the people of the area and State at large.
