A surfer has been rushed to hospital after being attacked by a great white shark, according to reports.

The man was attacked by the beast at Bunker Bay in Western Australia, according to local reports.

The victim, in his 20s, was airlifted to hospital with leg injuries.

Horror images show his board bitten in half after the incident at the beach, reports 7 News.

He was in the water with several other surfers, who paddled after him after he was bitten and helped him to the shore.

Once there the RAC Rescue sent a helicopter after the alarm was raised just after 2pm.

He was airlifted to the Royal Perth Hospital.

Details of his injuries are not yet known.

According to witnesses, the shark measured around five metres long.
