Amnesty International reacts as police arrest Sowore

Following the arrest of a popular Nigerian activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, Amnesty International has expressed concern over the development. While condemning the arrest of Sowore, Amnesty International in a post on its social networks deals with also frowned at the attack on the activist by believed hooligans.

According to the human rights organisation, the federal government must guarantee his instant release, adding that Nigerians can reveal themselves in harmony.

“Amnesty International is deeply concerned over today’s violent attack by criminals, on Omoyele Sowore.

“We also condemn his subsequent arrest by the Nigeria Police. This is not the very first time Sowore’s life is threatened for just defending flexibility and justice.

“Nigerian authorities must immediately launch him. Those who assault him– today and in the past– should be brought to justice.

“Sowore and all Nigerians deserve to reveal themselves peacefully.”
