EPL: Man United to sack Ralf Rangnick on one condition

Manchester United will sack interim supervisor, Ralf Rangnick if the club does not complete in the Premier League top-four position this season.

This claim was made by Arsenal legend, Paul Merson.

Rangnick has come under fire in recent weeks, with Man United putting in a variety of underwhelming performances– consisting of an FA Cup beat at Old Trafford to Middlesbrough.

The German also watched as his group stopped working to beat Southampton in a Premier League tie on Saturday after playing a 1-1 draw.

The result against Southampton means Man United are now in the 5th position on the Premier League table with 40 points from 24 matches.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson said: “One-hundred percent [Rangnick won’t supervise of Man Utd next season] I have actually got as much opportunity of being in charge. I just do not see it.

“I read something that stated they have actually improved. I don’t see that. I don’t see joy there. I hear a lot coming out of Man Utd, at the minute, which is just amazing. It never took place before which is my worry.

“I do not see him existing and the way it’s addressing the moment, if they do not get in the top four, I would be surprised if he went upstairs. I understand that was part of the offer, however I don’t think it is a good idea. I believe this needs to be nipped in the bud earlier rather than later at Manchester United.

Merson included: “I would have had someone in as quickly as possible. You pay ₤ 70m to ₤ 80m for football players and some of them don’t even play. Why would you not spend a lot for supervisors if you need to get a supervisor out of a club? In my viewpoint, they are extremely crucial.”
