Omo Onile: FUOYE VC laments as landowner pester professionals

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Oye Ekiti(FUOYE ), Prof. Abayomi Fasina, has actually revealed sadness over the alleged harassment being meted out to designers and those managing numerous federal government’s jobs in the university by landowners, popularly called Omo Onile.

Fasina stated the event had actually stalled the completion of some of federal government’s tasks and driven away financiers, who revealed interest in constructing structures that could fortify FUOYE’s centers.

Also, the Vice Chancellor divulged that the university had secured complete accreditation for the 48 courses being used by the institution, stating this had built confidence and patronage for admission in the university.

Speaking at a press conference held at FUOYE on Tuesday to mark the start of activities lined up for the one year of his consultation, Fasina prompted the host community leaders to caution those repeling contractors and developers under the façade of land ownership.

“Let me interest land owners to stop harassing professionals working with the federal government on this campus. Though the matter was being managed by the police, this should not continue because it is impacting advancement here on school.

“Another hazard was these regional vigilante groups called Egbon Adugbo, who are fond of harassing my trainees by obtaining money from them. This should stop. We are not going to take it gently with them. We have told the Council of Chiefs and the matter is being checked out.”

Fasina said through effort, timely promotion and fantastic hunting, the university now has 74 Professors and 51 Associate Professors, who are contributing difficult to scholarship and offering the institution an excellent ranking globally.

“Some of these professors were promoted when I got there as a Vice-Chancellor and I have asked my lecturers to be diligent, due to the fact that my vision is to promote 100 lecturers to professorial level prior to the expiration of my period.”
