Yobe killing: Senate President Lawan requires probe

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has actually called for a comprehensive examination into the killing of a driver in Garin Alkali, Bursari Local Government of Yobe State.

The event fired up violent demonstrations in the neighbouring town of Gashua, the head office of Bade Local Government on Saturday.

Responding, Lawan stated whoever is culpable would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

In a statement by his representative, Ola Awoniyi, the Senate President sympathised with the household of the victim.

“I am deeply saddened by the terrible news at Garin Alkali on Saturday and the violent responses that followed it. The killing of the innocent driver is remiss and wicked. It needs to not be excused for whatever factor.

“My heart goes out to the household of the victim. May Allah console them over their bereavement.

“I urge the authorities to thoroughly examine the occurrence with a view to developing why and how it occurred and using appropriate sanctions to hinder future reoccurrence.

“I urge members of the neighborhood never to take the law into their hands whatever the justification as such reactions often result in further disasters,” Lawan stated.
