Match day 9: Three key Premier League matches to watch this weekend

Last Updated: November 21, 2020By Tags: , ,

The Premier League returns at the weekend as we look forward to mouth-watering games after the International break.

A couple of players, notably Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz picked up injuries as players return from their respective National teams.

But it would not deter the top-quality performance we expect from the weekend’s showdown in the English top flight.

With these games lined up at the weekend, DAILY POST evaluates the three key games worthy of note as the Premier League takes centre stage.

Tottenham Hotspurs vs. Manchester City

Manchester City would lock horns with Tottenham Hotspur in the arguably star match of the weekend.

Though games like Chelsea’s affair with Newcastle United would be in vogue but the quality of the personnel involved in the Spurs/Citizens clash makes it even more defining to watch.

With Jose Mourinho certain to square up against Pep Guardiola, it promises an exciting 90 minutes affair as both managers would renew rivalry on the pitch just like in their days as Barcelona and Real Madrid Coaches.

Spurs would be looking to clip the wings of the visiting Manchester City side. But the Citizens would be out to improve on their away record in the on-going Premier League season.

Leeds United vs. Arsenal

Arsenal would be up against Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United side as the newly promoted team entertains Arsenal at home.

It promises to be an intriguing encounter on the pitch as both teams meet at the weekend. The London side endured a dismal showing against Aston Villa at home prior to the International break.

And with the Gunners needing a response from that defeat, it will be worthy of note to see how they get their acts together against Leeds.

The promoted side has been impressive, especially against some of the big sides just like they did in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City.

And with Patrick Bamford likely to feature, Arsenal would need to be at the top of their game in this fixture as they make do of the services of David Luiz, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and young star Bukayo Saka in this match.

Liverpool vs. Leicester City

It will be a clash of the titans as Liverpool welcomes Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City at home.

Rodgers is very much familiar with Liverpool having managed the team before the takeover of current boss Jurgen Klopp.

And he would be motivated to get the better of his former club Liverpool as Leicester is brimming with confidence with a place at the top of the Premier League Log.

But can they achieve the feat owing to the poor record they had against the Reds last term?

They may have got a say with the fact that Mo Salah may not feature in this game because he’s tested positive to the COVID-19 pandemic.

But with the form of Diogo Jota along with Roberto Firmino and Senegal Sadio Mane, expect Liverpool to come on board in this fixture as we look forward to an entertaining game of football in the Barclays Premier League.
