Edinson Cavani explains how Manchester United transfer happened

Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood can improve their game by studying the movement of new team-mate Edinson Cavani, says former Manchester United defender Wes Brown.

Manchester United star Edinson Cavani has revealed he turned down two major clubs before making the move to Old Trafford last summer.

The experienced Uruguayan has impressed since arriving, quickly becoming a hero by scoring a brace vs Southampton in one half of football to help secure a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory.

There were fears Cavani would fall into the category of signings who failed to live up to their reputation and while it’s still early, he’s certainly given fans something to shout about.

United secured his signature on deadline day and while some supporters held reservations, others were excited about the prospect of seeing such a proven goalscorer at the club.

The former PSG man has a year extension clause in his contract should the club feel the need to hold onto him beyond the next summer.

According to Manchester Evening News, Cavani said: “I saw it [mural in Naples] and I am very excited. It is yet another demonstration of affection from Naples that I will never forget.

“The emotion is doubled seeing my children admire that mural. It cannot be explained. To the fans I only say thank you. I will always be grateful to them.

“It is for this reason that I said no to many Italian clubs including Juventus, who called me often, and also Inter.

“I couldn’t make such a gesture to the Neapolitans.”

While Cavani’s words will be encouraging, given how he signed on deadline day, his turning down of those offers may have had nothing to do with Manchester United at all.

Either he genuinely cared about the Neapolitan people or he was in contact with those at Old Trafford all summer long but only put pen to paper on deadline day.

Nonetheless, Cavani is at United and the hope is his influence on the team can continue to grow, starting with a clash with Manchester City.
