The Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Jigawa chapter, Malam Sunusu Alhassan, has urged the State and Federal Governments to create more employment opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths.
Alhassan made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria during the May Day celebration on Wednesday in Dutse.
He said the call was necessary in view of the unemployment challenges facing the country.
He said: “It is becomes necessary for state and federal governments to to create more job opportunities.
“About two third of the people in the country are idle it is one of the reasons that there many cases of crimes and violences in our society.
“There is this adage that say an idle mind is a devil workshop, therefore, government should create more jobs for people, especially the youths to minimize crimes and other vices in the society.”
The Chairman enjoined civil servants in state to be hard working and dedicated to their work to reciprocate the kind gesture by Governor Muhammad Badaru’s administration.
He said that the present administration under Badaru has been paying workers salaries, pension and other entitlements as at when due.
He said: “It is necessary for us to appreciate and reciprocate this kind gesture.”
Alhassan pledged that the NLC under his leadership will continue to give necessary support to the present administration in the states and the country in general with a view to taking the nation to the next level.
He commended President Muhammad Buhari for signing the new national minimum wage bill into law.
He added:  “At least it is an achievement in fulfillment of one of the campaign promises of President Muhammad Buhari.”
